The Expansionist Meme

Posted by lovelyloey on June 9, 2008

It seems to me memes are the easiest thing to blog about; no need for photographs, no need to turn what’s essentially random unrelated events in the day into a cohesive narrative, complete with the tripartite structure. (My friend KL is damn good at narratives now that I look at it. And this is something good, okay!)

Anyway, stole this meme off Sulz.

One religious work from a non-familiar tradition you’ll read:

I would like to read something about the Wu Wei (无为) (literally: non-being) from the Taoist tradition. It’s about how true wisdom is through doing nothing, thinking nothing. Seems like my kind of stuff. :P

One music video–that you like–from your “least likely to listen to’ genre:

Not a big fan of music videos … I don’t like J-pop, but haven’t seen a good J-pop MTV either.

A book from a genre you almost never read, that you have read, or you will read (promise!):

I read Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, despite not being a fan of Sci-fi novels. So there.

Somewhere you’d never thought to go on holiday/vacation, and why it might be fun to go there:

Well, for a person who watches Discovery Travel and Living channel, no vacation is unthinkable. If I had to choose somewhere that I might actually go, it’d be Palau. Being in Southeast Asia and surrounded by beach holiday spots like Redang (heck I nearly typed Rendang, a curry-like dish :P ), Bali, Phuket, I never had the desire to go to beaches too far away like the Maldives, let alone lesser-known Palau. So it might be a good place to go, I suppose.

A specific food you’ve never tried, but will because of this meme, honest!:

Because of this meme, I will attempt to eat a raw ebi (prawn). I don’t ever eat anything raw, unless it’s fruits and vegetables. So in time to come, I shall go to a nearby sushi bar and order a raw ebi sushi and eat it and blog about it (might as well make the most of the ordeal I have to go through). Back in 2003 I tried a piece of raw salmon because of a dare from a friend and let’s just say “I hated it” is understatement.

A sport or game you really hate, or haven’t tried yet, but are willing to give one more go:

I want to try squash! I have a fear of squash because I am afraid of getting hit by the ball that rebounds off the wall. But alas I shall force someone to teach me one of these days.

A style of dance you probably won’t try (we won’t make you promise on this one):

I refuse to do ballroom dances, the Waltz, Salsa, Ramba or Tango (especially tango. I think the head twisting is silly and I will probably break my neck doing it.) I would rather learn the Cancan or Flamenco.

A career job you don’t feel you’re suited for, and why:

I cannot be tattooist because I don’t have steady hands. That said, I can’t be a dentist either.

An item that’s “thinking out of the box’ for this meme that hadn’t been included:
My question : What item would you choose to put into a time capsule for your generation?

Well, an item I’d want to put into a time capsule for 2008, to be opened 30 years later: the PAPER manual for a digital camera. The reason being (1), it’s printed on paper. Chances are, 30 years down the road, we might have given up paper for the electronics. (2) It’s for a digital camera, something that might or might not be obsolete 30 years down the road. (3) It’s a manual. I hardly think anyone reads the instruction manual nowadays; we just KNOW how to operate a digital camera; so, 30 years later, who still needs instructions?
