Busy?

Posted in Unfettered by lovelyloey on October 27, 2007

I know there are many of you MSN Messenger users who simply adore the “Busy” mode, which essentially allows you to appear “busy” while staying online, and no annoying sounds will be played when a new message/reply comes in.

Well, I think the whole Busy Mode thing is bullshit.

See, if you were really that busy, why bother to stay online? Unless if your rationales in using that mode are so that you can(1) legitimately ignore people’s messages and subsequently chide them for distracting you, and (2) bother other people who are online, making it appear as though you’ve taken time out to talk to them.

Seriously. I don’t get it. I hardly ever use that mode. So I really hate it when people try to talk to me using that mode. It just make it seem as though they are oh-so-important and I should not disturb them and I should effing understand when they take their effing time to reply.

No.

Seriously, if you were that busy, what is the point in staying online on MSN?! It’s not like you’re having online MSN conference/project discussions all the time that you need to be both online and focused at the same time. So what other excuses are there?

Therefore, I hereby declare that I will never use that mode again, and I will refuse to speak to anyone using that mode. If you’re busy, you shouldn’t be talking to me at all. If you’re not busy, you shouldn’t be effing lying. Use technology in an honest manner m’dear. And the same goes for people who abuse the other modes, like “Away” and “Be Right Back”. In fact, the abuse has gotten so serious that everyone assumes that everyone else is an effing liar when it comes to online status, so they try and send a message anyway. Come on, which part of “Away” do you not comprehend? Sheesh.

Bunch of idiots I’d say.

Wow! Thanks for posting the PostSecret Link in your sidebar – this was refreshing for sure! I think I will order at least one of the books as present. Very cool!

About the ‘busy’ (I am using ICQ/Miranda) – I use it too, I admit – for showing that I am theoretically online, but might be away for a short time eating something, cleaning the bathroom… This way no one is upset after sending three messages without reply. So it means some kind of “I love to talk with you and will reply as soon as I get back on the computer”.
When I do not want to be adressed at all, I just shut down the messenger and that’s it.

But maybe this is, because I only use it for real-life-friends that could also call me anytime, no matter how busy I am.

Yeah, so you’re one of those who make use of those online status “honestly”, that you are really away doing something else when you switch to Away mode.
