What I cannot do

I must be one of the few people in this world who keep track of the things one cannot do, but it’s important to me. To know where I’m deficient in, and try to make up for it. So here are some things I cannot do, and hope to do (well at least some of them):

  1. Drive (yes I know, go on and laugh)
  2. Skateboard
  3. Oil-paint/watercolour
  4. Play the piano/violin/saxophone/clarinet/flute/you get the idea
  5. Windsurf/wakeboard/sail
  6. Ride a horse (something I hope to learn after I lose some pounds just so I don’t kill the horse)
  7. Play chess/Go (weiqi) (I want to learn both too!)
  8. Pottery
  9. Calligraphy - the English one
  10. Fish

I plan to learn at least 5 of these things on this list by the end of next year. Yay.
And really, I’ll rather be a Jill of all trades, even though I’m mistress of none because seriously speaking, how many people do you know have attained mastery in any one thing?

Rainbow on the floor

Today I was in the Arts canteen at noon and I saw this on the floor - a rainbow. Caused by refraction of light through a particular glass pane on the roof. It was so pretty!  Never have I thought that I would see a rainbow on the ground, so this was really special.

Busy?

I know there are many of you MSN Messenger users who simply adore the “Busy” mode, which essentially allows you to appear “busy” while staying online, and no annoying sounds will be played when a new message/reply comes in.

Well, I think the whole Busy Mode thing is bullshit.

See, if you were really that busy, why bother to stay online? Unless if your rationales in using that mode are so that you can(1) legitimately ignore people’s messages and subsequently chide them for distracting you, and (2) bother other people who are online, making it appear as though you’ve taken time out to talk to them.

Seriously. I don’t get it. I hardly ever use that mode. So I really hate it when people try to talk to me using that mode. It just make it seem as though they are oh-so-important and I should not disturb them and I should effing understand when they take their effing time to reply.

No.

Seriously, if you were that busy, what is the point in staying online on MSN?! It’s not like you’re having online MSN conference/project discussions all the time that you need to be both online and focused at the same time. So what other excuses are there?

Therefore, I hereby declare that I will never use that mode again, and I will refuse to speak to anyone using that mode. If you’re busy, you shouldn’t be talking to me at all. If you’re not busy, you shouldn’t be effing lying. Use technology in an honest manner m’dear. And the same goes for people who abuse the other modes, like “Away” and “Be Right Back”. In fact, the abuse has gotten so serious that everyone assumes that everyone else is an effing liar when it comes to online status, so they try and send a message anyway. Come on, which part of “Away” do you not comprehend? Sheesh.

Bunch of idiots I’d say.

A CSI Proposal

OMG you must be kidding me.

BUT, I bet she’s going to reject him, and even resign because Jorja Fox has quit.
So there.
But still. GSR fans must be elated.

Dumbledore is Gay

Check this out.  JK Rowling has announced that Dumbledore is gay, and was in love with Grindelwald who eventually let him down.

I think this will incur repurcussions.
Especially in the fan fiction arena because now all the Albus/Snape, Albus/Harry, Albus/Hagrid and whatever other horrific ships are going to FLY. And I’m saying this because I’m working on a paper about the lexis of fan fiction, whereby I select 6 words. Ship is one of them. And guess what, this piece of news is going to my presentation. :D

She just made my day. But I have this nagging feeling that since Dumbledore has only loved 1 man in his life, he isn’t technically gay, but just in love with The One. And if he was terribly hurt by Grindelwald, how can he actually trust Snape with his life? So, as usual, JK and her flawed conceptions.

377A

Whoever dares to sign Keep377A, shame on you.
Carry on encouraging discrimination and inequality in Singapore and YOU will one day be discriminated in other ways.

 Edit:

Just look at the bullshit comments on Keep377A. I feel like tearing the guts of these people. YES, SODOMY IS SIN SO WHY SHOULD IT BE ALLOWED BETWEEN CONSENSUAL HETEROSEXUAL COUPLES IN THE FIRST PLACE?! I bet these homophobes who signed Keep377A have absolutely no idea what we’re debating here about equality. All or nothing; repeal 377A or bring back 377.

The Star Book

I followed the tutorial by Kargrrl on the Craftster forum and made this nifty little notebook:

Plain on the outside, I know. But once it opens up…

Tada! Pretty, no?

However, do not ask me how one writes on it. I have absolutely no idea.

PS: And I just realized the colours are the exact same shades as the NUS corporate colours. Sheesh.

Blink

Synopsis (by me): How to trust snap judgment and intuition without letting personal prejudice and social stereotypes affect our decision.

Well. It’s been eons since I last read a non-academic non-fiction (I usually only read academically-related non-fictions). Sure, this is an enjoyable book that tells me more about how normal people make decisions and snap judgment, and hopefully I can mull on it, siphon the information that I can use to my advantage. The evidence he showed in this book are quite anecdotal, with real-life (or not) stories of people and how they utilize their snap-judgment.

Not a must-read, and I am hardly a non-fiction self-help convert.

Anothre Colour Quiz

Sulz did this colour quiz, so I gave it a try.

(Bold = accurate)

Your Existing Situation
Volatile and outgoing. Needs to feel that events are developing along desired lines, otherwise irritation can lead to changeability or superficial activities.

Your Stress Sources
Has an unsatisfied need to ally herself with others whose standards are as high as her own, and to stand out from the herd. This desire for preeminence isolates her and inhibits her readiness to give herself freely. While she wants to surrender and let herself go, she regards this as a weakness which must be resisted. This self-restraint, she feels, will lift her above the rank and file and ensure recognition as a unique and distinctive personality.

Your Restrained Characteristics
Feels she is receiving less than her share, but that she will have to conform and make the best of her situation.
Egocentric and therefore quick to take offense, leaving her rather isolated in her attachments.

Your Desired Objective
Suffering from pent-up overstimulation which threatens to discharge itself in an outburst of impulsive and impassioned behavior.

Your Actual Problem
The need for esteem–for the chance to play some outstanding part and make a name for herself–has become imperative. She reacts by insisting on being the center of attention, and refuses to play an impersonal or minor role.

It wasn’t too accurate for Sulz, but it’s spot on for me. AND I REFUSE TO BELIEVE MY DESIRED OBJECTIVE IS TO SUDDENLY FLARE UP AND PARTAKE IN IRRATIONAL RASH BEHAVIOUR -fumes-

Clarity

Where mundane lives cross paths
A flower withers and laments their veiled minds
Disillusioned by teachings and words of fools
I’ve been there and back.

They utter words of dreams and hopes and faith
With their minds restricted to one thread
Of thought like one thread of silk - thin but tough
I see past them all, I see through them all.

Their covered eyes see only what they desire
Their covered ears hear only what they desire
Their utter disillusionment reasoned with flawed excuses
I know it all and I can play the same game.

I lament their blindness and blind trust
Sometimes I lament my own clarity of view
That I wish I can be disillusioned as they are
Yet woe to be me I see everything
